Why I am unfollowing Umair Haque and other >K Medium writers
(in support of the better and less famous)
Medium keeps changing and that’s okay. If we love how life changes and our insights and viewpoints evolve, we must love how platforms and apps constantly adapt too.
But there. The art of changing is that we change in response to changing circumstances and in dialogue with whatever feedback we gather from the feedback loops that we are inevitably part of. And that’s where it hurts. The current way in which Medium fills my feed is less than satisfactory. Can I be the only Medium reader who feels somewhat left in the cold?
I know that Medium is reading posts with Medium as a subject too. Therefore, my present post is an expression of trust. I feel fine with Medium as a platform for independent writing, and I love that Medium offers ad-free reading in exchange for not more than the price of two cups of coffee a month (here). I also love that the income thus generated is partly redistributed among Medium’s writers, even if this means a pittance, more often than not expressed in cents rather than dollars. All this is love and pure love only.
To make this possible, I understand that Medium needs a good number of star attractors — writers with thousands and thousands…
